The November 17th, episode of Monday Night RAW featured John Cena’s final appearance on the red brand ahead of his retirement next month. The seventeen-time world champion opened the show, only to be interrupted by Dominik Mysterio, who arrived wanted a title rematch. When Cena offered him a rematch tonight, Mysterio rejected that, and instead said he wanted it to take place at Survivor Series on November 29 in Mysterio’s hometown of San Diego, which Cena agreed to.
On this week’s Raw Recap, Cena reflected on his WWE Intercontinental Championship win over Mysterio, noting that the young star reminds him of himself.
“Incredibly grateful for the ability to get in there with Dom Mysterio, who I respect and admire. He reminds me a lot of me, and he reminds me a lot of the mistakes I made. Like, I can see all of the mistakes that are about to happen with him, and I want to shake him and be like, ‘You’re going to do this,’ but I want him to learn for himself. He is authentic. He’s reliable. He works hard, and he’s passionate about the business. He’ll learn, he’ll figure the rest out.” (h/t to WrestlePurists.com for the transcription).
The November 17 WWE Raw also saw Cena in action in Madison Square Garden for the last time, teaming with Sheamus and Rey Mysterio to take on Judgment Day (Dominik Mysterio, JD McDonagh & Finn Balor).
