Backstage Reaction To Gunther’s Win Over John Cena At Saturday Night’s Main Event

As noted, John Cena lost his last match via submission to Gunther in the main event of Saturday Night’s Main Event tonight in Washington, D.C. Gunther secured the victory with a sleeper hold, forcing Cena to tap out, and a new report sheds light on how the finish was received internally. 

Fightful Select is reporting that people in WWE were Having mixed opinions. Several talents reportedly felt Cena should have gone out with a victory, though they also understood the reasoning behind the booking and the company’s long-term plans. Despite the mixed feelings, the report notes that no one was livid over the finish.

Triple H was said to have had a smile on his face in Gorilla position over the finish and had the same reaction in front of the camera while being booed, as he did backstage. The report goes on to say that The heat on Gunther was so heavy, he legitimately had to be escorted out of the Capital One Arena. It was added that he was followed by a number of fans.
