As seen at WWE SmackDown in Berlin, Germany on Friday night, Cody Rhodes lost the Undisputed WWE Championship to Drew McIntyre following a return by Jacob Fatu in the Three Stages of Hell match.
According to BodySlam+, the wrestlers in the main event weren’t told of the direction for the finish until a few hours before the match. It’s also being reported that there were a few different pitches for the finish, but WWE ultimately went with Drew winning the Undisputed WWE Championship with the accidental help of Jacob Fatu.
It’s being said that WWE is looking to take a different approach on the road to WrestleMania. Drew McIntyre’s big title win opens up a few different stories heading into the Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber and WrestleMania 42.
WWE will hold a Fatal 4-Way Match at Saturday Night’s Main Event later this month. The winner will go on to challenge Drew McIntyre for the WWE Championship at the 2026 Royal Rumble in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The event takes place on Saturday, January 31 at the King Abdullah Financial District.
